HOW TO APPLY TO THE LANGLEY FINE ARTS SCHOOL...
Applications to register at the entry level in the four District-wide programs covered under District Policy 5084 will be taken at the School Board Office, 4875 222nd Street, Langley. Applications for children of any age (including pre-natal registrations) will be accepted.
Parents wishing to apply for early entry spaces in Early French Immersion, Kindergarten; Late French Immersion, Grade Six; Langley Fine Arts School, Grade One; or Langley Fundamental Elementary School, Kindergarten, will apply at the School Board Office any time during the year. Their numbered applications will be held at the School Board Office and their child will be placed on a wait list.
Parents wishing to enroll children in later years of these District-wide programs will make application at the school site where the program is offered.
HOW WILL THE PROCESS WORK AT THE EARLY ENTRY LEVEL?
- Parents wishing to apply must fill out an application form available at the School Board Office. This can be done at any time during the year. Parents will be given written confirmation of the date and time of their application at the time that they apply.
- In cases where a program is offered at more than one site, parents must indicate a site preference at the time of application.
SCHOOL INFORMATION
Several Times a year, we host School Information Sessions.
During which, you will have the opportunity to tour the school and
visit classes in session. You will receive information about
the school and its programs, as well as have the opportunity to ask
questions. Please view our calendar (School News Tab) for
upcoming Information Sessions.
HOW WILL THE PROCESS WORK FOR OTHER YEARS OF A PROGRAM?
Parents wishing to apply must fill out an application form available at the school site where they wish to register their child. This can be done at any time during the year.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS?
Step One
Application Form - This is completed by students/parents and returned to the Langley Fine Arts School. The date this application form is received determines the student's place on the waiting list. When filling vacancies, preference is given to Langley residents, then the school fills openings available in the various Fine Arts majors in each particular grade.
Step Two
Inforamation Session - If you haven't already done so, attend an Information Session to see us in operation. Call the school to find the date of the next scheduled Information Session.
Step Three
Interview Appointment - When space is available in the appropriate grade and Arts major, one of the secretaries at the school will call to arrange a time for your interview. We start interviewing in February of each school year.
Step Four
Interview - Parents and students are encouraged to ask questions, state expectations, and express concerns about any aspect of the Langley Fine Arts School. School staff will present information about the organization of the program, the expectations of students, the content of the program, special features, etc. We need to discuss each student's needs and interests so you can make a well informed decision as to whether or not Langley Fine Arts School is the best choice for you and your child.
Step Five (for Secondary only)
Portfolio Review/Audition - Students in Grades 9 - 12 complete a portfolio (Visual Arts, Writing) or an audition (Performing Arts). Since our courses are Board/Authority Authorized, there is no equivalent in other schools. Based on the portfolio or audition, our staff can determine each applicant's appropriate grade placement in the Fine Arts.
DOES EARLY APPLICATION ASSURE ACCEPTANCE INTO AN ALTERNATE PROGRAM?
Date and time of application are not the sole factors in determining priority of entry into alternate programs. Other factors that are considered BEFORE date and time of application are:
- Availability of space in the program.
- Students are admitted in the following order:
- In-District Siblings
- Other In-District applicants
- Out-of-District applicants
- Date and time of application are the third determinant of priority.
- Parents will be provided with up-to-date information about their child's position on the application list, but it is important to note that a child's position on the application list is not necessarily identical to the child's position on the selection list, which takes into account factors listed above.
- Acceptance of a child into a program is the decision of the site Principal.
